Coppola Services constructed a new 1.44MGD Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) adsorption system on an active municipal lot in Bergen County, NJ.
The new system was integrated into an existing drinking water treatment facility and connected to local water and sewer utilities. Structural and architectural modifications to the existing treatment facility were done to accommodate the new system.
This system consists of four adsorption vessels fed via two vertical turbine pumps in a precast wet well. All instruments and controls were integrated into the water utility’s existing SCADA system to be monitored remotely. The backwash waste from the filters is sent to the sewer system by gravity via a series of manholes, including a 3,500 gal holding tank. The adsorption system is almost entirely outdoors, so all the piping had to be carefully insulated.
